Jebel Tazekka
Morocco's most underrated national park — a dramatic limestone massif near Taza with ancient cedar forests, rock gorges, cave systems and panoramic views over the Rif and Middle Atlas
Highlights
- Ancient Cedar Forest: The Bab Bou Idir section of the park protects primeval Atlas cedar — some trees over 600 years old, with Barbary macaques visible at the forest edge
- Friouato Caves: Just outside the park, Friouato is one of Africa's deepest cave systems (180 m) with enormous stalactite chambers — one of Morocco's great geological wonders
- Oued Zireg Gorge: A little-visited river gorge cuts through the southern flank of Tazekka — remote hiking through narrow limestone gorges with no tourist infrastructure
